And quite frankly, having a characters loyalty doesn't mean a whole lot, when much more subtle things can impact the end game. In ME I can play how I want, and there will be variations, but no one is just going to leave. My problem with the DA system is that they actively go out of the way to punish a certian play style, essentially saying that you are playing the game wrong, even though it is supposed to be open ended. And if you play good, you get to keep everyone and it's all beautiful.

Essentially you get punished for choosing how you play. If I were to play as evil in DA, then characters will leave the party, with nothing to balance it out, leaving my party crippled at the end and nothing to have actually made it worthwhile for having chosen the bad path.

The reason I prefer is that is because it does not break the game for me. I think we're looking at it from different viewpoints, so I'll explain why I prefer the mass effect system more (keep in mind, I'm in no way trying to say you that you are wrong) The consequences aren't as severe (yet) in ME, but I prefer that.
